Climate of Kyoto
In Kyoto, it's hot in summer and cold in winter. You may think it is natural(Japan is in the Northern Hemisphere.), but it may be hotter and colder than you thought.
| Average temperature | Jan | Feb | Mar | Apr | May | Jun | Jul | Aug | Sep | Oct | Nov | Dec | Year |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kyoto | 4.6 | 4.8 | 8.1 | 14.1 | 18.8 | 22.7 | 26.7 | 27.8 | 23.6 | 17.5 | 11.9 | 6.9 | 15.6 |
| Tokyo | 5.8 | 6.1 | 8.9 | 14.4 | 18.7 | 21.8 | 25.4 | 27.1 | 23.5 | 18.2 | 13.0 | 8.4 | 15.9 |
As you see, it's hotter and colder than Tokyo. In terms of the maximum or minimum temperature, Kyoto'max is 32.9 and min is 1.1, Tokyo's max is 30.8 and min is 2.1. Furthermore, Kyoto is a basin surrounded by mountains. A wind usually doesn't blow hard, and circulation of air is bad. In other words, it is humid in summer. On the other hand, it is easy to snow, and become very cold. It is rare that a ground is covered with snow in the town, but it is usual in near mountain.
When you come to Kyoto, you can feel a season stronger than any other region in Japan(in the world, I think). It's good for tourist, but it's not good for living. Because it's hot in summer and cold in winter here.
